In Florida, the ATFE is again on jumping down the throat of “lenient” gun laws and gun shows. Apparently Puerto Ricans fly up from (where else) Puerto Rico with their “gun order”, stay with a buddy, go to a gun show, buy some guns, take them back to the airport, declare them in their check baggage and voila the guns are now in P.R. I know I know, the gun orders are from dirtbag criminals. ATFE is somehow making this into more than it is. It IS a crime, just like any other straw purchase would be anywhere else in the country but somehow it’s worse in this case.
Maybe it’s the fact that the guns are on a plane (heaven forbid!) what with all the terrorist activity going on all the time. There’re attaching the plane issue, with the Puerto Rican issue, like it’s some other country, to the “lenient” gun laws and one of their pet peeves, the EVIL gun show. All of these issues are not related. That seems to be the way of the left is to throw some sh_t together that the slightly uninformed can implicitly attach together to make something more out of something less. There are already lots of laws on the books about straw purchases. Why doesn’t the ATFE use the laws that already exist? Oh that’s right, they’d have to get their hands dirty by doing some (a lot) of undercover work to catch the bad guys. It seems the left wants to legislate all wrong out of the world. Hell if they could do that no cop would have a job. That would be OK if it’d work. The problem is that the people who are breaking the law now will be breaking the law then, when the new laws are passed so the situation just gets worse (read more restrictive government) for the law abiding. This is just my anecdotal observations but it seems that a lot of people want to be “cops” until they start being cops then they don’t want to do cop stuff. They just want the moniker. They want new laws to make THEIR jobs easier and they forget that there are a lot of people out there who don’t need and don’t want more laws complicating their lives. Looks to me like just another way to advance a leftist cause. On a more positive note - In Ohio, a couple came to the aid of a policeman who had been shot. The man tore off his shirt to provide a bandage for his Dr. wife who did the first aid until the paramedics arrived. The man said I didn’t give it a second thought, until we had loaded the Sgt. onto the ambulance then I got cold. The media wanted to call the couple heroes. The couple said nope – the policeman is the hero for doing his job. I’d certainly like to see a lot more of the good Samaritan attitude out there. |
